Dane County Risk Management

The Dane County Risk Management’s mission is to identify, mitigate, and manage risks and protect County employees and capital assets.

Dane County employees injured in the course and scope of work, must report the injury/illness to a direct supervisor and call the the Workers’ Comp Care Line at: 888-515-1563. If it is a life-threatening emergency, call 9-1-1.

The Workers' Comp Care Line is staffed 24/7, by a nurse, and will provide the following, if applicable:

• General guidance
• The appropriate level of medical care
• The name and address of medical facilities near the employee's current location or home.

Paperless Intake

Calling the Workers' Comp Care Line is a paperless intake process. After documenting the employee's account of work-related injury/illness, the nurse will forward the information to Risk Management & Wisconsin Municipal Mutual Insurance Company (WIMMIC). WMMIC is Dane County's workers' compensation claim administrator. WIMMIC will be available for regular, on-going communication with injured employees. WMMIC can be contacted at 608-246-3336.

To bring an action against Dane County, section 893.80 of the Wisconsin Statutes requires notice be sent to:

No special forms are required to file a claim against Dane County. A proper notice should contain enough information to allow for the claim to be investigated or evaluated. This may include, but is not limited to: 

• Full legal name
• Home address/PO Box
• Monetary sum demanded
• Supporting documentation.

Under Wisconsin law, municipalities are generally protected from damages caused by hitting potholes and road debris. In these cases, it is best to file a claim with your auto insurance company.

A request may be denied if, for example, the records are not indexed, arranged, or automated in a way that the requested records can be retrieved, or if the record is exempted by law from being released in response to a records request, or if the public’s interest in non-disclosure of the record outweighs the public’s interest in disclosure of the record. A request may also be denied if the record does not exist; Dane County is not required to create a new record or compile data from existing records into a new format.
